Frequently Asked Questions

  • What cities is Aptjoy available in?

Aptjoy is currently supported in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are planning on expanding to other areas in 2013.
  • I don't have a Facebook account. Can I still use Aptjoy?

No worries. If you don't use Facebook, you can still take advantage of most of our features. Instead of connecting with Facebook, you can choose to sign up (or log in) with your email address.
  • Is this completely free?

Yep! In the future, there may be premium accounts for a small fee that offer additonal features, but users will always be able to search, post, and find the perfect apartment for free.
  • How do verifications work?

You have the option to connect your Aptjoy account with different social networks (like Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin). When you connect the accounts, Aptjoy receives the number of friends, followers, or connections that you have in that social network. The verification process helps give confidence to other users that you are who you say you are. Rest assured, Aptjoy never receives your password to any of the social networks. If you ever change your mind, you can always 'disconnect' the social network account from your Aptjoy account and the verification information will be removed.
  • How do references work?

References help other uses know more about you. You can ask former roommates, tenants, landlords or just friends and co-workers to leave a reference for you. Your references are just one more thing that helps gain trust and confidence from other users.
  • I don't want my address made public. Is there anything you can do about that?

We totally understand your concern. To balance your need for privacy, we have anonymized your street address when you create a listing. Your public listing only displays the anonymized address (the map too!). Later on in the process, you can reveal the full address when you have found some serious candidates and wish to set up viewings.
  • I'm looking for tenants. Are there certain things that I can't say in my listing?

Whoa, nelly. We're not your attorneys, but under US Fair Housing laws, you are not allowed to discriminate against potential tenants in your listing. It's a pretty complicated area, but generally speaking, you can't discriminate based on (a) race/color, (b) disability, (c) sex, (d) religion, (e) familial status, or (f) national origin. You can learn more here and here.
There are a few exceptions. Most notably, the shared housing exemption allows you to state a preference based on sex IF you will be sharing a bedroom, living area, or bathroom with the other person. In other words, if you are looking for a roommate, you can state in your listing that you only want to live with another female.
  • I forgot my password. What do I do?

If you forgot your password, just click the "Forgot Password" link on the Log In form. We'll send you an email to your registered email address with instructions on reseting your password.
  • I have a question that you didn't answer here. How do I get in touch?

We'd love to hear from you. We can be reached at
